University of Liverpool Graduate Association (Hong Kong) & Tung Foundation Postgraduate Research Scholarships
The University is able to offer competitive scholarships for offer holders from Hong Kong, SAR and PR China for postgraduate research programmes.
Amount
The University of Liverpool Graduate Association (Hong Kong) postgraduate research scholarships are worth £5,000 or £10,000 per year for three years and are awarded to new students originating from Hong Kong and mainland China who can prove academic excellence and hold a formal offer of study for a full-time PhD programme at the University of Liverpool campus beginning between March 2026-January 2027.
The Tung Foundation postgraduate research scholarship is worth £10,000 per year for three years and is awarded to new students originating from Hong Kong and mainland China who can prove academic excellence and hold a formal offer of study for a full-time PhD programme at the University of Liverpool campus beginning between March 2026-January 2027.

The Tung Foundation
The Tung Foundation, founded by the late CY Tung, father of Liverpool graduates, Dr CH Tung (BEng Hons Marine Engineering 1960, Hon LLD 1997) and Dr CC Tung (BEng Hons Mechanical Engineering 1964, Hon LLD 2009), supports social, cultural and educational causes.
ULGAHK
The University of Liverpool Graduate Association (Hong Kong) (ULGAHK) scholarships were established in 1997 following a generous donation from an anonymous benefactor. The objectives of the scholarships are to promote educational exchange and academic research respectively, between the University of Liverpool and residents of Hong Kong.
Eligibility
The scholarships are open to new candidates originating from Hong Kong and mainland China who will be studying full-time postgraduate research studies at the main University of Liverpool campus. Candidates are required to have a formal offer of study for a PhD programme on the main campus at the University of Liverpool.
Applicants must commence their PhD studies between March 2026 and January 2027 (inclusive).
Scholarships are awarded for three years only, even if completion takes longer.
Successful candidates will be awarded a scholarship to cover partial payment of the tuition fee or living expenses. The scholarship may or may not be held concurrently with any other scholarships or bursaries at the discretion of the Award Committee and must be declared on the application form. Those already in receipt of China Scholarships Council funding will not be eligible. No payments are made until the successful applicant has registered on campus.
Please note: successful candidates must have a UK bank account in their own name that accepts BACS payments.
