Law Humanitarian Scholarship
The School of Law and Social Justice is committed to contributing, through the excellence of our research and policy work, the critical exploration of the role of law in promoting social justice.
We're defined by our commitment to social justice and see support for widening participation and internationalisation as central to this aim. As part of this commitment, we're offering the Law Humanitarian Scholarship for international students wishing to continue their academic careers at postgraduate level.
The Law Humanitarian Scholarship is open to support people living outside the UK who have recognised status as refugees or are under humanitarian protection as per the 1951 Refugee Convention. The award covers full tuition fees, visas, and support for accommodation and living expenses.
Eligibility criteria
This scholarship is intended to support international students who have recognised status as either refugees or under humanitarian protection under the 1951 Refugee Convention. This status must be held outside of the UK. It's also open to Ukrainian Nationals with European Union temporary protected status who are currently living in an EU state and who would be eligible to apply for a Student visa to come to the UK.
All applicants for this scholarship must:
- Be able to evidence their Refugee Status, or Humanitarian Protection as recognised by the 1951 UN Convention on the Status of Refugees. For Ukrainians with European Union temporary protected status, relevant documentation which evidences this includes a residency card for the EU state you're in or a residency extension letter to March 2025. Alternatively, Palestinians who are registered as refugees with the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) can provide evidence of this
- Have applied to study one of our four postgraduate LLM courses.
Amount
- This scholarship will provide a full fee waiver for the year long programme as well as accommodation costs and a stipend to support living costs up to the value of £18,688
- The scholarship will also cover transport from the students’ current location to Liverpool. This will be arranged ahead of Welcome Week, with students also supported by our Meet and Greet service on arrival in Manchester
- Scholars benefitting from this scholarship will also be supported during their time at Liverpool, including language support, visa applications support, a discounted gym membership and more
- We cannot provide financial or administrative support for family members.
