About
I joined the Department of Communication and Media as a Lecturer in Data Science and Communication in September 2020.
My research interests focus on how public opinion and social norms spread and change through peer influence. I mainly use theoretical modelling and simulation in my research, but I also have interests in data analysis and visualisation. Collaborations include the Worlds of Journalism Study Global Index on Journalists' Safety and a project to compare validity metrics for automated analysis methods.
I have a background in mathematical and computational modelling, most recently working as a consultant in industry, and before that as a maths lecturer. I have a first-class degree in mathematics and physics from the University of Bristol, a PhD in computational biology from the University of Sheffield, and diverse post-doctoral research experience. This includes working in crop and soil science at the University of Aberdeen, where I developed software on bioenergy land-use transitions for major energy companies and the UK Government.
I welcome new PhD students with interests in any combination of the following: sustainability, social networks, theoretical modelling, human experiments and data visualisation. Please apply to the department, where you have the option to name me as a preferred supervisor.
