Baggs PhD Fellowship in Theoretical Physics

(hep-lat, hep-ph, hep-th)

The Fundamental Particle Physics (FPP) (https://www.liverpool.ac.uk/mathematical-sciences/research/fundamental-particle-physics/) and the String and Beyond the Standard Model Phenomenology (SBSMP) (https://www.liverpool.ac.uk/mathematical-sciences/research/string-phenomenology/) groups at the University of Liverpool seek to attract first class national and international students in our program.

Award: The Baggs PhD fellowship is available to start at the earliest from July 2021, covering University fees at the level set for UK students plus a stipend (tax-free maintenance grant of £15,285 per year) for 3.5 years.

Deadline: The deadline for receiving applications is 21st March 2021. Please make contact with a project supervisor and then apply online https://www.liverpool.ac.uk/study/postgraduate-research/how-to-apply/ mentioning the Baggs fellowship in the box about possible sources of funding.

Shortlisted candidates: will be contacted and invited to a Skype/Zoom interview. Offfers are likely to be made  soon after the deadline. Possible research topics of the FPP group are particle physics phenomenology, multi-loop calculations, quantum field theory, lattice gauge theory and beyond the standard model physics. Research topics of the SBSMP group comprise Superstring theory and phenomenology, Geometrical aspects of String theory and Supergravity, String Cosmology and Beyond the Standard Model Phenomenology. Dr Martin Gorbahn martin.gorbahn@liverpool.ac.uk and Dr Radu Tatar Tatarrtatar@liverpool.ac.uk can provide further information about the FPP and SBSMP groups respectively.

Background: Prior background in Theoretical Physics would be an advantage. The successful candidates should have or expect to have a good honours degree or equivalent in Physics or Mathematics.

Supporting documents: University transcripts and degree certificates; evidence of English language proficiency (non-UK applicants only); research proposal or areas of interest should be uploaded to your online application form. Please apply for a Mathematical Sciences PhD (MPPR). Two letters of recommendation (references), or the contact details of your referees should be sent to spspgr@liverpool.ac.uk
