Institution: University of Liverpool
Role: LIV.INNO Fellow
I graduated with an MPhys degree in Physics and Astronomy from Durham University in 2016. As part of my master’s dissertation, I used data from the MUSE spectrograph to study galaxies at the time of their peak star formation.
I was part of the first LIV.DAT cohort and began my PhD in 2017. My research focused on using simulations of galaxy formation and evolution to study the orientations and alignments of galaxies with respect to their host dark matter haloes and the cosmic web. My industrial placement took place at IBM Research UK, located at the Sci-Tech Daresbury Campus. While at IBM, I researched the use of surrogate modelling to approximate complex simulations.
After completing my PhD, I undertook a postdoctoral position within the Astrophysics Research Institute, where I studied the link between the clustering of galaxies and the assembly time of dark matter haloes. I then joined LIV.DAT and LIV.INNO as a Liverpool Data Science Fellow within the QUASAR Group, where I collaborate with students and staff on their projects, work with industry, and drive training and activities within the CDT’s programmes.
