Experimental Methods in Biomechanics

Code: MUBM002

Credits: 15

Semester: Semester 1

This module will introduce students to a wide range of methods used in biological, clinical, veterinary, sports science and engineering contexts to answer research questions and discover the principles of musculoskeletal biomechanics. The principles of each method will be introduced through interactive teaching sessions, use of learning resources, and practical demonstrations. Methods will be linked directly to real-world challenges in biology, human and veterinary medicine, engineering, or sports performance that can be solved by investigating musculoskeletal biomechanics. Students will be assessed through a peer notebook of journal article summaries, a single portfolio of lab reports on the methods demonstrated throughout the semester, and a written protocol for a novel research study proposal.
