Shaping Future Medicinal Chemists: Drug Design Principles and Quantitative Skills

Code: CHEM203A

Credits: 15

Semester: Semester 1

The overarching aim is that students will gain the necessary key skills and knowledge to perform well in their medicinal chemistry degree programmes. By the end of the module students will have improved their ability to perform and apply mathematical techniques to problems in kinetics, thermodynamics and quantum mechanics. They will have developed abilities to employ industry standard medicinal chemistry parameters to drug development programmes. They will also have further developed their range of transferable, entrepreneurship and employability skills, including written and oral communication and team working. The course is supported by weekly maths workshops and additional medicinal chemistry workshops and will be assessed through four online maths quizzes, social media and commercial awareness/entrepreneurship activity and final medicinal chemistry exam.
