Architectural Design

Code: ARCH403

Credits: 15

Semester: Semester 2

The module focuses on the design of a complex building (or a complex of buildings). Students will draw on the theoretical explorations and graphic experiments conducted in Arch401. Through their projects, they will respond to their critical site analyses and develop the strategic propositions formulated in ARCH402. Students will write their own architectural briefs, in response to their critical interpretation of the sites and individual studios’ themes. Students will mediate between multiple scales and diverse parameters — such as perception and materiality, accessibility and circulation, structural engineering and fire safety, environmental comfort and sustainability — through complex yet spatially cohesive architectural solutions. Studio work will be accompanied by lectures by staff and invited speakers. Specialist tutorials will be provided.
