This module provides students with strategic insight into navigating and leveraging the global innovation landscape. This module focuses on equipping students with the ability to manage and commercialise innovation effectively across diverse international environments. Emphasising the significance of intellectual property (IP) in today’s technology-driven economy, the module introduces various IP forms and explores strategies for protecting and leveraging these assets to maximise value.
Students will explore appropriability regimes, technology transfer mechanisms, and strategic IP management, gaining a deep understanding of how to develop and execute robust commercialisation strategies. The module further examines the challenges and opportunities presented by different institutional environments, including a comparative analysis of IP strategies in established markets like the US and the UK versus emerging markets. By engaging with real-world case studies from diverse industries and technology sectors, students will learn to apply theoretical concepts to practical scenarios.
Throughout the module, students will also address the ethical and controversial aspects of IP and commercialisation, such as equitable access and the societal impact of innovation. In addition to theoretical discussions, the module will feature guest presentations from industry experts, enhancing students’ ability to interact with professionals and apply strategic IP management techniques for sustainable and competitive business development.
