Semester: Semester 1

Recognising the interconnection of animal and human health, the module will adopt a One Health approach throughout. Learners will study the legal and organisational processes in place in the UK and more widely to monitor, survey and control a range of diseases in animal populations. Learners will also examine how epidemiology is used to identify abnormal patterns of disease in such populations.

Together these assessments will help develop vital skills for future employability, wherever your degree takes you.

At the end of this module learners will be able to take the holistic, end to end approach necessary to understand diseases in a wide range of species and to discuss these diseases with a diversity of stakeholders from policy makers to animal keepers and their veterinarians, from researchers to commercial companies, from those interested in human health to NGOs. The module aims to develop skills that are vital for future employability in these wide-ranging sectors.
