Semester: Semester 2

This module focuses on the period following the death of Alexander the Great, when the fragmentation of his empire and the rise of the Hellenistic kingdoms ushered in major political, social, economic, and cultural changes across the Mediterranean and Near East, ultimately setting the stage for the coming of Rome. Through the study of literary texts, archaeology, and inscriptions, you will reconstruct the complex history of this transformative era, examining the dynamics of power, cultural exchange, societal shifts, and globalization. You will explore how diverse regions interacted, blending local traditions with new influences, leading to the creation of this new, Hellenistic world.
