Approaches for using Peer Review for Evaluation of Groupwork on large cohort modules

Dr Denise Preece
Management School

In this video, Dr Denise Preece gives an insight into how she embeds a peer review process in her modules to enable students to feedback and learn from their groupwork experiences.

In this video Denise illustrates how she employs peer review on her modules to support the group assessment, allowing final marks for students to directly correlate to individual contribution, where students are recognised for the level of effort put in, the same as it would be within the work environment. The grade differentiation was also required by the school assessment board. Denise outlines a number of useful practical approaches that help to ensure the success of the peer review, including transparency of process from the outset within course materials, an approach to alternative means of assessment for those that require it, and a 'yellow and red-card' process by which students can flag up and resolve issues within groups.

The video originally recorded for an away day by the Work, Organisation and Management subject group within the Management School, and kindly shared with CIE by Dr Preece and Dr Susan Minten.
