Students talking

Student to student support

Our students are committed to their community and take good care of one another.  Four formal mechanisms are in place to provide accessible support from people who really know what it’s like to be a vet student right now.

Peer supporters

We are privileged to have a dedicated group of counsellor-trained Peer Supporters, offering confidential listening and supporting the welfare of every single student.

Peer academic mentors

The excellent Peer Academic Mentors are trained in coaching and mentoring, learning theory and mindset development to help our students achieve their academic goals.

Course representatives

If students are experiencing problems with the course, have suggestions for improvements or wish to highlight great practice, they can bring this to the Staff:Student Liaison Committee via their Course Representatives. The course representatives also have regular meetings with their Year Lead and Senior Tutor, ensuring the academic and pastoral needs of their cohort are communicated to key staff directly from the students.

Buddy families

All of our students are assigned to a buddy family, comprising students from different years of the course. A family can be a social network, a source of advice, a shoulder to cry on, and each member of the family supports the others in different ways. This relationship benefits all parties as more experienced students gain in confidence by helping those in earlier years, and students in earlier years benefit from the experiences of their predecessors.
