About

Kostas Pappas is Senior Lecturer in Accounting at the University of Liverpool Management School and Director of Studies for the MSc in Accounting and Finance. Before joining Liverpool, he held academic posts at Loughborough University and the University of Southampton. He completed his PhD in Accounting and Finance at Alliance Manchester Business School, The University of Manchester, where he received both an ESRC award and an Alliance Manchester Business School bursary. He is also a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

His research interests are in market-based accounting, with a particular focus on earnings quality, debt contracting, and corporate disclosure. His work has been published in journals including Contemporary Accounting Research, Journal of Corporate Finance, Journal of Banking and Finance, The British Accounting Review, and International Journal of Finance & Economics. He has also received external research funding, including a BA/Leverhulme Small Research Grant for a project on earnings management during Covid-19.

Alongside his research, Kostas has extensive teaching and leadership experience across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. At Liverpool, he has served as Director of Studies for the MSc in Accounting and Finance since 2021, having previously been Deputy Director of Studies. He also contributes to the academic community as an ad hoc reviewer for a range of journals in accounting, finance, and management.
