Teaching

My teaching spans modern German history, literature, film, political thought and memory culture from the nineteenth century to the present. I currently convene German Cinema since 1990 and contribute to teaching and assessment on modules concerning the German Democratic Republic and Weimar-era film and literature. My teaching interests also include German-Jewish history, Nazi Germany and its legacies, the Holocaust, antifascism, the Cold War, surveillance and state socialism.

I have previously taught German literature and cultural history at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and have delivered specialist teaching on the Stasi, dictatorship, resistance and the politics of remembrance. Across my teaching, I use films, literary texts, historical sources and theoretical approaches to explore the relationship between culture, politics and society. I have taught and supervised students at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and hold a Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice.
