M.Sc, PhD

About

Ajith joined the University of Liverpool in 2026 as a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the group of Prof. Matthew Jonathan Rosseinsky. His research focuses on co-catalyst discovery through high-throughput screening to enable the sustainable production of chemicals, particularly for solid oxide electrolysers (SOECs) in close collaboration with the industrial partner Ceres Power, UK.

Prior to this, his work has spanned key hydrogen technologies across both academia and industry. His postdoctoral research at the University of Surrey (2022-2023), with Prof. Qiong Cai and Dr. Bahman, focused on tubular SOEC with meta-surface patterned anode. This was complemented by industrial experience in proton exchange membrane water electrolysis (PEMWE) at James Cropper Advanced Materials (2024), UK. He further expanded his expertise at Rutherford Appleton Laboratory (RAL), Oxford (2025), working on anion exchange membrane (AEM) systems, establishing a cross-platform perspective across major electrolysis technologies.

His expertise lies in advanced functional materials, including electroceramics and catalysts, with a focus on electrode architectures for next-generation electrolysers and fuel cells. He works across nano and microstructural engineering and thin-film fabrication using pulsed laser deposition (PLD), supported by advanced structural and spectroscopic characterisation, including X-ray diffraction and Raman spectroscopy. His electrochemical studies encompass impedance spectroscopy, voltammetry, polarisation behaviour, corrosion processes, and long-term stability assessments.
