Biography

Personal Statement

Professor Fadi Jarad is the Director of Professional Doctorate in Dental Sciences (DDSc) postgraduate programme. He is the lead for the DDSc Endodontic Pathway and a joint teaching lead for Restorative Dentistry (BDS programme).
Professor Fadi Jarad completed his Bachelor degree in Dental Surgery in 1997. He then moved to Belfast where he graduated with a PhD from Queen’s University Belfast in 2001. He joined the University of Liverpool in 2003, where he completed his Endodontic and Restorative specialist training. He is an honorary consultant since 2012 and was appointed as Professor of Restorative Dentistry in 2017.

Fadi’s clinical interest is in restorative dentistry and endodontics, working as part of a multidisciplinary team and offering a patient-centred approach to management. He has particular interest in Endodontic surgery and adult dental trauma and transitional care from Paediatrics.
Fadi has developed the DDSc programme and introduced three new pathways in Endodontics, Special care dentistry and Paediatric dentistry through the UOL quality assurance structure. Fadi has developed a progressive Endodontic pathway that has a strong restorative and at the same time with patients’ centred approach and ethos. He developed and integrated dental implant training into the doctorate PG Endodontic programme and lead the running of an implant service for our PGs.
Fadi’s research is focused on endodontic management strategies, which benefit patients. He has research collaboration in Dental Trauma, Stem cell and regeneration. Fadi has published and co-authored over 30 peer-reviewed publications. He has been a reviewer for a number Dental Journals and publishers. He has supervised successful PhDs and is supervising several doctorate projects at various stages as part of the DDSc in Endodontics.
Within the Faculty Fadi has developed collaboration with the Institute of Psychology and Health Sciences (including the Systematic Review group), Clinical Engineering, Computer Science and the Institute of Ageing and Chronic Diseases. Fadi has research collaboration with Kings College London, Imperial College London and Nottingham Trent University. He has research and teaching collaboration with several leading and local companies and manufacturers.
Fadi been providing PG CPD courses in Endodontics, Dental trauma, Endodontics Surgery, Dental Implants to GDPs and specialist trainees and consultants for many years. He jointly developed an international course for Endodontics in children attended by consultants and specialists for few years.
Fadi is a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh (Restorative Dentistry), Higher Education Academy (FHIA), and International Team of Implantology (ITI). He is a Royal college of Surgeons Edinburgh examiner for the MEndo/Mpros/MPerio exam. He is a member of the Endodontics programmes’ accreditation team for the European Society Endodontic (ESE). Fadi has held a number of external examiner positions for the UG BDS, PG and PhD programmes.
Fadi sits on the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh Speciality Advisory Board (SAB) in Restorative Dentistry and represent the college on the intercollegiate bodies, which advise on Restorative specialist training (Specialty Advisory Committee (SAC)).
