Ethics and Political Philosophy considers real-world questions about right and wrong, good decision-making, and what it means to live and act well. These areas of philosophy seek to understand and assess norms and values that shape moral and political life, both for individuals and societies. This module introduces students to central arguments and theories in historical and contemporary ethical theory and political philosophy. Taking this module will enhance students' abilities to analyse normative claims, for instance how someone ought to act or what a just society looks like, and to identify and critically engage with the philosophical assumptions that underlie them.
