GENDER, SEXUALITY AND THE BODY

Code: HIST535

Credits: 15

Semester: Semester 2

This module examines the intertwined histories of gender, sexuality, and the body, exploring how they have shaped and been shaped by various social, cultural, political, and religious contexts in various Western and non-Western contexts. Students will engage with theoretical frameworks and case studies that illuminate some of the ways in which historical understandings of gender, sexuality and the body have evolved over time and how these have shaped broader historical phenomena. It therefore offers a versatile analytical toolkit that can be applied to diverse historical topics—whether related to societies, political systems, religious structures, or moments of war and peace.
