Earth Materials

Code: SOES115

Credits: 15

Semester: Semester 1

This module will introduce and develop understanding of rock-forming minerals and critical raw materials in terms of their environments of formation, occurrence, and abundance. This module will explore different modes of formation of igneous and metamorphic rocks, as well as critical raw material deposits, through a mix of lectures and lab practical sessions. The key practical skills of mineral and rock description, identification and interpretation will be developed and applied throughout the module to equip students with appropriate skills for many later geoscience modules and for future employment. The module will be assessed by both coursework and exam-based assessment.
