Design Studio 1.2 consists of two connected subjects: Design Communication 1.2 (A) and Design Project 1.2 (B).
The aim of ‘Digital Design Communication 1.2’ (B) is to introduce and enable students to develop digital architectural representation and communication skills and techniques using industry-standard software.
‘Design Project 1.2’, builds directly on the design explorations undertaken in Design Project 1.1, advancing abilities to develop a coherent architectural proposal responding to a defined brief. The module centres on the design of a building within a defined urban context and schedule of accommodation. Students interpret a given brief continuing their development of design processes through critical exploration, testing and experimentation of ideas. Emphasis is placed upon developing a resolved design, including environmental sustainability, appropriate material selection, structural strategy and life safety issues. Using their developing architectural representation skills, students will be able to communicate their design intentions.
The module will be delivered using a combination of design tutorials, workshops, talks and reviews, followed by a summative design portfolio submission.
