Following the UK government’s announcement on Monday 16th March 2020, in order to support social distancing and help slow the spread of COVID-19, the Study Abroad Team are now working from home for the foreseeable future.

Drop-in sessions

We will be running live chat every Monday and Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (UK time) to answer any questions or concerns you might have. To access live chat, please click here.

Telephone

We will be forwarding calls made to our work telephones to our mobiles, which means we will still be able to take calls for the time being. Phones will be staffed during UK office hours (9am to 5pm) only. The main numbers for students to call are listed below:

Please note, the 0151-795-5508 number will not be operational during this period.

Documentation

We will not have access to scanners or printers during this period of home working.

If you are an Inbound student who need something printed and signed, you’ll unfortunately need to wait until our return to the office.

If you are an Outbound student who requires documentation, please get in touch so we can discuss alternative methods of providing this to you.

If you are preparing to participate in a Semester Abroad or a Year Abroad at university, then in lieu of the Course Approval form, you can upload an email from your IOA with the modules listed and their confirmation to Mobility-Online.

Email

We are hopeful that our email response time will continue to be within 5 working days – but we will update the auto-responses if this is no longer the case.

Applications

Outbound Students

We are currently planning for exchanges in the Academic Year 2020/21 to go ahead as normal. Therefore, if you are applying to a host university for a Semester Abroad, Year Abroad or Year in China, please continue with your application. Owing to the situation, colleagues at our partner universities may not be able to process applications as quickly as usual, so please be patient.

If we are forced to withdraw particular partner universities due to COVID-19 (or any other developments) then, where possible, an alternative partner university will be offered but this is not guaranteed as it outside of the University’s control. We will ensure that, if it is necessary to withdraw any of our Study Abroad schemes, this will be done before you have made any significant financial commitments to the programme and in good time for you to make plans to continue your academic study in Liverpool.

If you are on a programme which includes a compulsory Year Abroad as part of your learning outcomes, we will work with your departments to make arrangements for a suitable alternative where we can, although we cannot guarantee at this time that this will be possible as it may be outside the University’s control.

We will be in touch as soon as possible, when and if it becomes necessary.

Future briefing sessions

Pre-Application and Pre-Departure sessions will be transitioned to an online format - you will be provided with further information as how to access the briefing sessions at a later date.

Inbound Students

We are currently planning for the Academic Year 2020/21 to go ahead as normal. Therefore, if you are applying to come to Liverpool for an exchange or study abroad, please continue with your application as normal. Owing to the situation, there may be a delay in your modules being approved and registered so please bear with us.

Summer Programmes

Both the International Summer School and Summer Research Programme have been cancelled for Summer 2020 due to the significant uncertainty we face at this time. We are already planning for these programmes for Summer 2021, and hope anyone interested in this summer’s programmes will be able to join us next year.

In order to help us help you, please ensure that you carefully read everything that we send you before reaching out with questions. If you are an Outbound student, please also read any information from your host university/host organisation. If you are an Inbound students then please also read any information from your home university. 

Whilst this will be a challenging time for everyone, we will work together to make sure we can support you.
