About

Dr Hanjoon Shim is a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Space Engineering within the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the University of Liverpool. He joined the university in 2025 and is currently working on the UKRI-funded REMORA project, focusing on the development of Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC) technologies for deep-space CubeSat missions. Prior to joining Liverpool, he was a member of the SNUGLITE CubeSat team at the GNSS Laboratory of Seoul National University, where he contributed to the SNUGLITE-I, SNUGLITE-II, and SNUGLITE-III missions from 2017 to 2025. Dr Shim received his B.S. in Mechanical and Control Engineering from Handong Global University in 2016, and his M.S. (2019) and Ph.D. (2024) degrees in Aerospace Engineering from Seoul National University, Korea. His research interests include precise relative navigation using real-time kinematic (RTK) techniques, spacecraft attitude determination and control, and hardware-in-the-loop simulation for autonomous CubeSat operations.
