School of Medicine students have opportunities to intercalate during their degree, undertake an elective placement at home or abroad, or take part in the University's Year in China initiative.
Intercalation allows students to pursue further studies related to medicine in greater depth. Students intercalating suspend their MBChB studies for a period of 12 months in order to undertake research for a BSc, MSc, MRes or MPhil degree.
All students on the MBChB programme undertake several weeks of elective study, providing them with an opportunity to explore new disciplines and study in different spheres. Many students choose to go abroad for this purpose.
