Call for PhD Studentships

The Department of Mathematical Sciences at the University of Liverpool invites applications for 1 studentship of 3.5 years leading to a PhD and commencing study on either 1st October 2022 or 1st January 2023. We particularly encourage applications from underrepresented minorities and from female candidates. Special consideration will be given to candidates who apply to work under the supervision of early career researchers, and to work in the areas of Financial and Actuarial Mathematics, or in Stochastics and Probability.

Award Value: The studentships are fully funded, covering University fees plus a stipend (tax-free maintenance grant of £15,609 [2021/22], subject to increase in future years).

Award conditions: Students will spend their time working towards the objectives of the chosen PhD programmes (teaching assistant duties will be provided on a voluntary basis and paid separately). The students will have to comply with the University and Departmental training requirements. 

Eligibility: Candidates of all nationalities are eligible to apply.

Candidates will need to secure the endorsement of their proposed supervisor(s). To achieve this, candidates should contact the proposed supervisor(s) before 24th June 2022.

Deadline: The deadline for receiving applications is 24th June 2022. Please make contact with a project supervisor(s) and then apply online and mention the Math Department scholarships in the box about possible sources of funding. All shortlisted candidates will be contacted and invited to a Skype/Zoom interview. A necessary condition fo be shortlisted is to have secured a written endorsement from a proposed supervisor (see previous paragraph).

Supporting documents: School or college transcripts/certificates; university transcripts and degree certificates; evidence of English language proficiency (non-UK applicants only); 2 letters of reference (the cut-off deadline for them to be submitted is 24th June 2022); research proposal or areas of interest.
