Wheelchair Accessible Showers

What is an Accessible Shower

An accessible shower is designed to meet the majority of needs of independent wheelchair users and people with mobility impairments, people with other physical conditions such as impaired dexterity and grip, balance and conditions where physical support from grab rails is needed.

There are 2 main types on campus, 1) a standalone accessible shower, and 2) a Accessible Shower & Toilet combo (the majority). Key featuires include step free shower area / wet room, fold down seat and grab rails.

Emergency Alarms

The orange/red emergency pull cord may also be provided to enable an individual to call for assistance in an emergency. Pulling the cord usually activies a warning light and buzzer on the outside of the room. A reset button is usually available within the toilet/shower if the cord is pulled by mistake.

The cords MUST NOT be tired up, wrapped around rails or removed. It muse be within reach of the toilet, and the floor at all times.

If you hear the emergency alarm go off, please follow the instructions found on the door.
