About

Personal Statement

Developed the Low Carbon Eco-Innovatory (LCEI) which is essentially a continuation of our multi award winning £10M Centre for Global Eco-Innovation that ran from 2012-2015. It was awarded the RCUK Impact award for Outstanding Commercialisation Initiative 2015 and Green Gown award fro R&D, in addition to the University's own Outstanding Contribution to Research Impact award.

LCEI is a £5m programme assisting approximately 250 innovative SMEs within Liverpool City Region. At the University of Liverpool we are funding 20 Phd projects across a range of subjects and schools with companies in a huge variety of sectors. It is a partnership between The University of Liverpool, Liverpool John Moore's University and Lancaster University working closely with LCR LEP and the respective councils, chambers of commerce and business associations. We are developing new and improved Low Carbon products and services through access to HEI expertise and resource to improve local business and reduce CO2 emissions.

For the second consecutive year one of our partner companies has won the coveted Merseyside Innovation award. In 2017 it was awarded to Marlan Maritime Technology for its work alongside UoL and NOC developing unique RADAR systems for coastal monitoring. This year 5D Health Protection Groups won the award for biofilms that can substantially reduce drag on ships hulls, saving potentially millions of tonnes of CO2 emissions per annum.

I am also the University's lead on a Science and Innovation Audit looking at Clean Growth in the Northwest Coastal Arc. This is a multi-stakeholder collaboration, involving the universities of Lancaster, LJMU, Chester, Bangor, Keele and UoL plus LEPS, local authorities and numerous industrial partners.

Previously within UoL I was the Head of the iD2M Centre, the precursor to the VEC, assisting local SMEs to develop digital manufacturing and design capabilities. Through this role I was integral to creating the VEC, from initial strategic vision to detailed development of the project management plan.
