Continuing Professional Development - External Examining
The Leadership, Organisational, Professional & Academic Development Academy (The Academy), in collaboration with Advance HE, are pleased to announce that they will continue to offer the Degree Standards Project course for external examining. The aim of the course is to enable aspiring, new or experienced examiners to:
- Gain an understanding of the role of the external examiner as articulated in the UK Quality Code for Higher Education
- Consolidate their understanding of the nature of academic standards and professional judgement, and explore the implications for external examining
- Develop their ability in using evidence-informed approaches to contribute to impartial, transparent judgements on academic standards and enhancing student learning.
The course was originally devised in a blended format (prior online activities and reading followed by a face-to-face workshop). Given the impact of the pandemic, it has now been revised for remote delivery. The course content is largely unchanged but it is now delivered by two online meetings with the same prior online activities and reading and time to reflect between the two meetings.
We are liaising with the NW Consortium of Universities to collaborate in establishing dates for delivery of the course and will announce details as soon as possible.
