Urban Regeneration and Property Development

Code: SOES335

Credits: 15

Semester: Semester 1

What should planners do when cities lose momentum? How do places reshape themselves after periods of decline? Who is responsible for driving that change? This module explores the intertwined worlds of urban regeneration and property development, examining how development processes and planning interventions shape the revival of struggling areas. Through a blend of key theoretical perspectives and international case studies, the module enables students to engage with critical issues such as housing, community, public health, and local economies, gaining a robust understanding of how regeneration works in practice. Students will also develop insight into the roles of various stakeholders in urban regeneration and the complexities of managing competing interests. This knowledge equips them to navigate these challenges and develop effective policy responses that support sustainable, long-term urban transformation.
