Electromagnetism provides a unified framework for understanding electric and magnetic phenomena, and in this module you will develop the mathematical tools needed to describe it in depth.

Building on your first-year studies, you will work with Maxwell’s equations in both integral and differential form and use vector calculus to model electromagnetic systems. You will analyse how fields behave in materials, how they evolve in time, and how electromagnetic waves arise from fundamental principles.

Learning is centred on solving increasingly complex and multi-step problems, allowing you to connect mathematical formulations with physical behaviour. Through this process, you will develop the ability to analyse realistic systems, interpret solutions critically, and understand the assumptions that underpin physical models.

This module provides the essential theoretical and analytical foundation for advanced topics in electromagnetism and prepares you for tackling complex and unfamiliar problems in future modules.
