ADVANCED EXPERIMENTAL METHODS

Code: PSYC641

Credits: 30

Semester: Semester 2

This module provides research-led training in advanced experimental methods, preparing students for independent research. Students gain both theoretical understanding and practical expertise in techniques widely used in experimental research.

Topics include behavioural, psychophysiological, neuroimaging, and neurostimulation methods, with practical experience in experimental design and basic programming for data collection and analyses. Example application areas include neuroscience, addiction, appetite and obesity, language, experimental psychopathology, and sensation and perception.

Teaching combines lectures, tutorials, and laboratory sessions, to ensure students develop conceptual knowledge and hands-on skills with different techniques. Assessment consists of a critique of a scientific article and a practical laboratory report, demonstrating proficiency in experimental design, data analyses, and scientific communication.
