This module provides research-led training in quantitative and qualitative methods, providing students a strong foundation in methodological and statistical approaches alongside exposure to practical research techniques.

Quantitate topics include regression, multifactorial ANOVA, principal components and factor analysis, meta-analysis, psychophysics (e.g., signal detection theory), and Bayesian statistics. Qualitative approaches include field research, interviews, core qualitative analysis methods and reporting, and systematic reviews. The module also introduces neuroscientific methodology, scientific epistemology, ethical considerations, and principles of rigour and open science.

Teaching combines lectures and practical sessions, enabling students to apply theoretical concepts to real-world research designs and analyses using SPSS and R. Assessment includes an examination and coursework, evaluating methodological understanding and analytical skills.
