Semester: Semester 1

This module provides a strategic and integrated perspective on operations management, equipping students with the knowledge and skills to drive competitive advantage in both manufacturing and service industries. It explores key business drivers such as time compression, responsiveness, waste elimination, globalisation, supply chains, agility, and efficient consumer response (ECR). The formulation of operations strategy and performance measurement are examined through leading-edge practices. As businesses increasingly shift towards service-oriented models, understanding the complexities of service operations management has become essential. This module explores the full-service lifecycle, addressing innovation, customer value, and service quality across public, private, and third sectors. Students will engage with best practices, theoretical debates, and contemporary research, applying insights to real-world challenges. By the end of the module, they will be equipped with the analytical and strategic capabilities needed to enhance operational performance and contribute to organisational success in an increasingly competitive and service-driven economy.
