Physics in Practice IV is the culminating research project of the MPhys programme. Students undertake a substantial independent research investigation that engages with contemporary physics research and develops advanced skills in scientific enquiry.
Working closely with an academic supervisor, students critically evaluate current research literature, formulate research questions and design appropriate methodologies to investigate complex physical systems. Projects may involve experimental investigation, computational modelling, theoretical analysis or the interpretation of large scientific datasets.
Students exercise significant autonomy in planning and executing their investigation, refining their approach as new evidence emerges. The module culminates in a substantial research dissertation and the presentation of findings to an academic audience.
