Code: ORTH352

Credits: 15

Semester: Semester 1

This final-year module brings together theory and practice to develop advanced skills in refraction within the context of modern eye care. This module builds on the previous optic and ophthalmology modules ORTH 152 and ORTH 252. You will build confidence in objective and subjective refraction techniques whilst analysing and evaluating the management of refractive errors and the prescribing of optical corrections for a wide range of patients. The module highlights the expanding role of orthoptists within multidisciplinary teams and prepares students for contemporary clinical practice through a strong focus on professional judgement, clinical competence and patient-centred care. Learning is supported through a blend of lectures and hands-on clinical skills sessions, ensuring graduates are well prepared for extended and advanced practice roles. Assessment of the module comprises of a 45 minute practical clinical skills exam.
