This module gives hands-on experience in collecting and analysing data from coastal marine ecosystems. Based at a residential field site, you will sample at sea on a research vessel and on the shore, using modern industry-standard techniques to study physical, chemical and biological properties of coastal marine environments. You will follow professional marine science practices, from field and lab sampling to data processing and analysis. The module develops essential skills in (a) research integrity, which is assessed through submission of a field and lab record book, (b) data analysis and visualisation, assessed with a group poster presentation and (c) scientific writing, synthesis and critical thinking, which is assessed with a written research report. The development of these essential research skills will build key employability attributes.
