Our understanding of the environment is often dependent on our observations and monitoring which inform us on its functioning. This module will help students gain confidence in practical skills to sample, observe, measure and record the marine system. Through a combination of introductory lectures, laboratory practicals, workshops and local fieldwork, students will learn and practice how to carry out a field sampling programme and how to measure a range of common oceanographic, biological and ecological parameters. In this hands-on module where group work is omnipresent, students will develop communication, leadership and critical thinking skills. Assessment will comprise a group presentation and a final exam.
