Analysing Occupation

Code: OCCU481

Credits: 40

Semester: Semester 2

This 40 credit, Level 7 module, is the first in the occupation for health and well-being theme. It introduces students to the analysis of occupational performance as the foundation of Occupational Therapy practice.
Students develop an integrated understanding of anatomy, physiology, psychology and social factors as they influence participation in everyday occupations across the life course.

Using real-world case narratives, task and occupational analysis, and simulated practice contexts, students are introduced to occupational identity, the occupational therapy process, and the use of models of practice and frames of reference to structure professional reasoning.

The module has two complementary assessments designed to develop professional reasoning and ethical communication. An early practical assessment (30%) focuses on inclusive communication and critical evaluation of professional decision-making, while a written case-based occupational analysis (70%) enables deeper synthesis of theory, evidence, and occupational therapy reasoning. Together, the assessments provide comprehensive coverage of the module learning outcomes..
