The module provides an introduction to reading and interpreting longer texts (for advanced students, in the target language), using secondary literature to inform critical analysis, and exploring what happens to texts in adaptation (e.g. to film or graphic novel form). The module is designed to equip students with the appropriate skills to develop and create an independent project based on the text and its adaptation.
By the end of the module, students will have developed techniques for reading and analysing texts in the target language, developed their own line of enquiry using concepts and theories drawn from secondary literature, and presented this in written form in a guided independent project.
The module is taught through a combination of plenary lectures, workshops and small group supervision. It is assessed through two pieces of coursework: 1) a journal summary (30%) and 2) an independent project (70%).
