This Y1 intensive German language module is for students who have not studied German before or with very limited knowledge of the language. The module is mapped against the A2 level of the CEFR. Through a variety of learning and assessment activities, students will work towards a basic competence in reading, listening, writing and speaking German and the use of the German language in context. The aim is to build a solid understanding of basic grammar, to build intercultural skills and develop advanced language learning strategies appropriate for intensive language learning.
Students will work towards being able to
understand short written and spoken texts related to areas of most immediate relevance (e.g. very basic personal and family information, shopping, local geography, employment);
communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and routine matters;
describe in simple terms aspects of his/her background, immediate environment and matters in areas of immediate need;
plan, organise and monitor their language learning independently.
