This module explores how soil and terrestrial biogeochemistry shape the landscape. Students gain hands-on experience in field sampling and in measuring physical and chemical properties, as well as in laboratory preparation, analysis, and evaluation of biogeochemical data. Through an interactive, research-led approach, you will work with real biogeochemical datasets and apply current scientific literature and module concepts to interpret your findings. Teaching is delivered through a team-teaching model and combines lectures, fieldwork, laboratory, and PC-based sessions. Assessment consists of two authentic summative components: a group presentation based on field and laboratory results, followed by an individual consultancy-style report that applies findings to real-world contexts relevant to local stakeholders. Throughout the module, you will build transferable skills for careers in the environmental sector, including scientific communication, data handling, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
