This module will develop the practical and analytical skills needed to work confidently with quantitative geographical data. Students will learn how to collect robust primary data using a range of field and laboratory techniques, before managing, cleaning and analysing both primary and secondary datasets using coding software such as R. Through hands-on practical sessions, workshops and guided analysis, the module will introduce core statistical approaches and will help students understand how methodological choices shape geographical interpretations. Students will also learn to communicate their findings through effective data visualisations. By building competence in coding, quantitative reasoning and evidence-based analysis, the module will provide essential preparation for data-driven dissertations and will equip students with analytical abilities valued across environmental, geospatial and other data-focused careers.
