Field Skills in Physical Geography

Code: SOES172

Credits: 15

Semester: Semester 2

This module introduces students to the core field techniques used within physical geography and provides a practical foundation for subsequent study in years two and three. Following a short series of preparatory lectures, students participate in a non-residential week of fieldwork in local and regional landscapes, where they apply standard methods to investigate contemporary environmental processes. Working across a variety of terrains, students gain experience in data collection, observation, and preliminary analysis, while developing confidence in teamwork and field-based enquiry. By the end of the module, students will have strengthened their practical skills and enhanced their ability to link physical geographical concepts to real-world contexts.
