The module is designed to provide an accessible introduction into the world of urban planning. To achieve this the module covers three distinct elements. The first covers the history of the urban planning movement in Britain from the Victorians through to the modern day. The second provides an overview of the workings of the current planning system with specific reference to England. The third explores the practical applications of planning thinking and provides some early ideas about the kinds of jobs a planner might do. The module is assessed through a report and a written exam.
