This module provides a critical examination of financial innovation’s transformative impact on digital banking, Decentralised Finance (DeFi), and the global financial ecosystem. Students will study the transition from conventional banking to advanced AI-driven FinTech and blockchain-enabled DeFi.

The curriculum explores critical regulatory advancements in banking supervision (SupTech), legal contracting (LegalTech), and insurance (InsurTech), alongside ethical considerations in AI decision-making and data privacy frameworks. Through interdisciplinary case studies, students will evaluate synergies and challenges within FinTech sectors, including algorithmic bias and decentralised governance. Designed for future financial leaders, this module develops analytical skills to create ethical, compliant solutions in an industry increasingly defined by automation and decentralisation. Students will be equipped with the knowledge and skills to navigate and lead in an automated, decentralised, and ethically responsible financial ecosystem.
