This module aims to provide understanding of mineralisation processes in magmatic, tectonic and sedimentary environments through a critical assessment of current conceptual models. Our modern societies are built on rock and now more than ever before we rely on the minerals that we source from Earth. Minerals are essential materials in sectors such as transport and logistics, electronics, health and medical applications, and for the transition to sustainable energy. This module provides the qualitative and quantitative skills necessary to understand the genesis and distribution of mineral resources. Students will be taught ethical and sustainable practices in mineral exploration and the importance of economics and politics. Through lectures and in laboratory settings the students will experience mineral exploration and sustainability practices and workflows.
