This module aims to provide an integrated perspective on a range of natural hazards, their different levels of impact on human societies, and the mitigation and adaptation strategies adopted before, during and after extreme events. At the end of this module students will have an understanding of the physical processes and societal impacts associated with a range of geophysical, hydrological, meteorological, and climatological hazards, including the theoretical frameworks and policies that inform and shape Disaster Risk Reduction strategies. The course is delivered in a series of lectures supported by tutorial sessions and is assessed by an exam and group coursework assignment.
