Modelling The Earth

Code: SOES312

Credits: 15

Semester: Semester 1

Computer models are increasingly important tools for understanding and prediction of many critical aspects of our planet and how we can all live in a sustainable way, so skills to develop and use Earth-system models are increasingly valuable for Earth and environmental scientists. This module uses lectures, seminars and practical work to teach students to use and construct simple computer models of Earth and environmental systems, including geological, geomorphic, geophysical, oceanographic and ecological models. Successful students will develop highly employable coding, numeracy and quantitative critical thinking skills. The module will be assessed through practical work only, with formative feedback throughout to help develop the necessary skills and knowledge.
