Urban Design Studies

Code: SOES379

Credits: 15

Semester: Semester 2

Urban design is a collaborative and holistic approach to shaping our everyday environment. Urban Design Studies introduces you to designing for health, community and sustainability through lectures, guest talks, walking lectures and a design crit. You will have the opportunity to engage with urban design practitioners throughout the semester. Acquiring a range of analytical, design and presentational skills necessary for urban design projects and developing positive design responses are at the heart of this module. Workshop and IT lab sessions focus on drawing, modelling and site design. Assessment is comprised of a baseline report for an area in Liverpool, which you prepare as part of a small team, and an individual design proposal for part of the area studied employing skills and techniques taught in class.
