Urban areas across the world are the response to their unique environments and culture, approaches to planning as well as local economic, social and political conditions. Having evolved from simply providing shelter and opportunities for trade and social interaction, urban areas developed into the complex organisms we know today. The module explores the timeline of urban development in the light of social, aesthetic, functional and environmental aspects. The module is delivered through lectures, tutorials and PC lab sessions. You will acquire analysis techniques and are introduced to a 3D modelling software essential to the work of planners, urban designers and architects. You will be assessed based on two pieces of coursework; an illustrated essay and a group project. For the latter, you will explore different approaches to place-making during self-conducted site visits in Liverpool and present your work in a seminar-style setting.
